The one piece ball valve as the name suggests is made out of one body piece unlike the 2 and 3 pieces. This means the valve cannot be taken apart for cleaning. The advantage is that the valve will be low cost and robust. As a result of the valve body being one piece is that a smaller ball has to be used leading to a reduced port, more commonly called a reduced bore. This means that flow is reduced through the valve, since the ball bore is one size smaller than the pipe size.
The two pieces stainless steel ball valve is probably the most widely used ball valve. The two pieces ball valve will open or shut off flow on most liquids and gases quickly and easily and is suitable for just about any application where a simple on/off action is needed. Flow rate can also be controlled by partially opening or closing the valve to various degrees. Also referred to as a two-way ball valve, since it allows flow in any direction straight through from inlet to outlet. Being threaded ball valves they are quick to install and easy to use, requiring no tooling for installation.
The three piece ball valve is preferred wherever regular cleaning is required. The valve body is composed of 3 separate pieces held together by bolts, which can be easily removed for cleaning and servicing. A unique advantage of the 3 pieces valve design is that the ball valve ends can remain threaded into the pipe, while the center section containing the ball can be removed. These 3 pieces ball valves have been specifically designed to be easily disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. 3 pieces stainless steel ball valve is widely used for a variety of sanitary applications that are required for pharmaceutical and food/beverage industries.
